Pair of top-10's in DIRTcar Nationals prelims at Volusia

With Monday’s program postponed after he raced into the opener, Chase Junghans returned to Volusia Speedway Park (De Leon Springs, Fla.) on Tuesday to pilot his Shop Quik Convenience Stores No. 18 Late Model for the second round of the 53rd annual DIRTcar Nationals.

Starting the feature in 10th via a third-place finish in his heat, Junghans was one of six cars eliminated in a lap-17 pile-up.

On Wednesday, Chase backed up the ninth-fastest qualifying lap in his group with a 10th-place finish in his 20-lap prelim.

For Monday’s rescheduled feature that was also ran on Wednesday, Junghans clawed forward one spot in the 25-lap affair to register a sixth-place finish.

In a field of 48 World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series entries on Thursday, Chase stormed into the $12,000-to-win A-Main with a sixth-to-first showing in his B-Main. Starting on the 10th row, Junghans climbed one spot to finish 18th.

On Friday, Junghans missed a transfer spot by one car in both his heat race and B-Main, ending his night early.

Saturday’s 53rd annual Federated DIRTcar Nationals finale fell to wet weather.
