Chase Junghans begins 2023 campaign at Volusia Speedway Park

The 2023 season got underway for Chase Junghans on Thursday afternoon with a visit to Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) for the fourth annual Sunshine Nationals.

Drawing a stout field of 47 World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series entries for the three-day event, Junghans’ eighth-place finish in his heat race relegated him into a B-Main for another shot at the opener. Needing to place third or better, Chase fell short with a sixth-place outing.

For another $8,000-to-win prelim on Friday, Chase followed up the 17th-fastest qualifying effort in his group with a sixth-to-third showing in his heat. Starting the feature in 16th, Junghans faded two spots in the 25-lap affair to finish 18th.

An unfavorable forecast for Saturday’s program forced officials to cancel the Sunshine Nationals finale.
